Family Video & Hoogland Foods (dba Marco’s Pizza) Reward Academic Excellence

GLENVIEW, IL – May 2019 – Throughout the month of June, students from kindergarten through college can receive a free movie or game rental at Family Video for each final “A” grade or (equivalent mark) they achieve in a core subject on their year-end report card. The company expects to give away over one million movie and game rentals this summer. Additionally, all Family Video affiliated Marco’s Pizza locations will give the “A” student a small 1 topping pizza; one per student.

What started over 30 years ago as a simple way to reward local students has now become one of Family Video’s most anticipated programs. Since its launch by company founder, Charles Hoogland, the “Report Card A” program expands to 650 movie and game rental stores and 130 selective Marco’s Pizza restaurants located in 19 states and Canada.

Although the scale of the rewards program has grown, its purpose remains the same: celebrate students who put in the time and effort to achieve success in the classroom. Support from the local communities Family Video serves helps make “Report Card A” and other programs successful year after year.

“Having kids of my own in school and watching them get excited about receiving an ‘A’ makes me realize how important our “Report Card A” program is. I believe that academic excellence is something to be celebrated,” said Keith Hoogland, Highland Ventures, Ltd. President. “It’s great to be able to give back to local communities and reward students on their success. We look forward to continuing the ‘Report Card A’ program for many years to come.”

Family Video Donates Thousands of Turkeys and Hams to Local Families in Need

Glenview, IL: NOVEMBER 2015 – Family Video, the nation’s largest family-owned movie and game rental chain, aims to make the holidays a little brighter for families in need this holiday season. Continuing an annual tradition, the chain’s 780 stores will be donating thousands of turkeys and hams between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to those who most need help in their local communities.

The tradition began over 40 years ago, when Clarence Hoogland, founder of Family Video’s original parent company, Midstates Appliance and Supply, gave each warehouse employee a plump turkey for their family’s holiday meal. When Clarence’s son Charles ‘Charlie’ Hoogland took over the business, he expanded the practice to donate turkeys to Family Video’s customers as well since they are “part of the family!”

Charlie’s son Keith Hoogland, President of Family Video, remarked, “It’s about community and people. When customers come to a Family Video, they almost always know the person behind the counter. This is an opportunity for us to give back and support the whole community, not just the people that come into our stores.”

Local store and district managers work in conjunction with schools, churches, homeless shelters, and other community organizations to identify families or groups who are in need of a holiday meal. The Family Video team will then personally deliver the turkey or ham to the people who need it most. Through this program, the company and its employees are able to express their gratitude and support toward the community in a meaningful way.

Hoogland continued, “This year, our employees are projected to donate over 30,000 turkeys and hams to local families who need assistance. We are proud to continually be able to make a difference.

Pizza & a Movie, Cary?

CARY, IL: FEBRUARY 2016 – Marco’s Pizza opened for business on December 27th.  Marco’s is proud to announce a ribbon cutting ceremony for their newest location. The ceremony will be held on Monday, January 25th at 3:30 pm at 3106 Three Oaks Road, next to Family Video. Hoogland Foods, dba Marco’s Pizza is owned by Highland Ventures LTD. parent company to Family Video and Stay Fit 24 also in the Cary retail complex.  This location will be one of over 100 locations open next to a Family Video since June of 2012 – making it the largest franchisee of Marco’s Pizza. The company plans to welcome another 50 locations nationwide in the next 4-8 months.

“Opening a Marco’s Pizza next door to our video store is a natural fit,” said Keith Hoogland, President of Family Video and Hoogland Foods, dba Marco’s Pizza.  “Having a Family Video and a Marco’s Pizza in the same location saves families time.  We’re creating value and convenience for our customers by having both services available in the same place.”

Marco’s Pizza will offer both carryout and delivery services.  The proximity to the Family Video store will give customers the unique ability to pick up their movies and dinner without having to make multiple stops.  Families can also order a movie for delivery with their pizza, by going on-line at marcos.com and placing their order for both pizza and a movie.

Family Video and Marco’s Pizza both pride themselves on the exceptional experiences and value offered to their customers.  Marco’s Pizza’s menu features the company’s Ah!thentic Italian pizza, Cheezybread, chicken wings, fresh-baked subs, meatballs, handmade salads, soft drinks and more. Marco’s was founded in 1978 by Italian born, Pasquale (“Pat”) Giammarco and is committed to making Italian Pizza with fresh, never frozen cheese or dough.

“This exciting partnership has transformed Family Video into a ‘one-stop shop’ for dinner and entertainment, while maximizing the potential of our locations” said Hoogland. “Reaching this milestone signifies a bright future as we continue to revolutionize the movie rental industry with the backing of the nation’s fastest growing pizza franchise.”

Because Highland Ventures owns most of its real estate, the company has the ability to easily convert existing retail space into a brand of its choice. Marco’s Pizza, now the fastest growing pizza company in the U.S.  is an ideal partner, as the brands share an almost identical customer base and priority of customer service.

Having both locations under one roof gives customers the unique ability to pick up their movies and dinner without having to make multiple stops. The authentic Italian pizza chain has an order window inside most Family Video locations for easy carryout service. For the delivery customer, Family Video offers delivery of movies with online pizza orders, providing busy families a more convenient way to enjoy fresh, artisan pizza and their favorite movie in the comfort of their own home.
